Now here’s a mad thing. I have next to no time to myself and yet I can’t quite get my head around buying Christmas cards. Although saying that, I suspect next year I’ll be much more on board with it after the past couple of weeks.
Anyway, that’s by the by for the moment. I’ve made our cards for the past few years and it’s a tradition I really enjoy. I usually pick one design or idea and use it for all our cards. This year I had to play things a bit differently as my original idea came about because I was trying to use up a surplus of white felt (more of that later in the week). As supplies were limited and buying more felt would have defeated the object, I had to come up with another idea to bridge the gap when the number made fell short of the number required.
And so I arrived at the stamped card. It’s pretty simple – I just cut a heart shape out of some scrap brown paper and then stamped ‘merry and bright’ repetitively across the centre…
And that’s all there is to it. It’s so easy. Admittedly a bit time-consuming, but easy. The first one I did used black ink and on reflection I wasn’t sure whether that was a bit bleak for Christmas. So I flirted with red ink on the second. Both work well I think, although the red probably has the edge for festive purposes…
Either way, I love the way they turned out. A bit better than the other idea I had that used cupcake snowflake stencils…
Turns out the stencil is way too small to use with paint and the whole thing turns into a total faff, although I do like the result. But as it failed the easy test, it fell by the wayside. (I also had a vague idea to stencil brown paper with the snowflakes for wrapping paper. Suffice to say that ain’t happening…)
Are you making your own cards this year?

these are so cute! i love how you make your own cards too. i send out too many cards, so this year i used up some leftover christmas cards from past years and personalised them with leftover stickers
