I’ve had these in my head for a while now, so I’m glad I finally got round to them this week. They’re brilliantly quick. I used DAS air-drying clay (bought from Cass Art rather than Amazon, they have a great sale on at the moment). Just roll it out to around half a centimetre thick – any thinner and they look a bit feeble. Cut out a shape using cookie cutters and then lightly stamp on your text. I used these stamps…
Leave them to dry for 24 hours – both sides need to air, so I set them out on a grill tray. Once dry, I used the smallest brush I could find and dabbed gold acrylic paint into the text grooves. You could varnish them I guess, but I quite like the slightly rustic feel. A length of ribbon later and you’re ready to go…
I did a family set for our tree and a few ‘Baby’s First Christmas’ names for friends… but I also like more generic versions like this…
You could also try different shapes and colours – I’m definitely going to experiment next year!

Love these! They look lovely even without the gold paint. And also good to see a familiar quilted wreath decoration in the background – I have mine up from the first Bramblebird craftnight
Thank you! Glad to hear the quilted wreath is still in circulation… we’ll have to get another craft night in the diary for early 2013! X
These ornaments are so cute!! I love them!!
Thank you!
Love this tutorial! Going to think how I can translate it into a valentines idea! Thanks for posting.
